The Siècle de Louis XIV(1751) is a milestone in Voltaire’s career as historian-philosopher. The work signals the beginning of modern historiography as well as modern literary history. This volume – the second of four text volumes of this seminal work to be published in collaboration with the Château de Versailles to mark the 300^th anniversary of the death of Louis XIV – contains chapters 13 to 24, continuing the history of the king’s foreign policy from 1676 until his death in 1715.
