Assistant Professor, Athabasca University, French baroque and classical literature of the 17th century

Athabasca University’s Centre for Humanities in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, French, commencing January 1, 2016. This is a full-time position located in Alberta, Canada. Athabasca University is a fully-accredited, post-secondary institution with a commitment to facilitating open access to education.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in French literary studies with expertise in French literature from the Moyen-Age to the 21st century. Familiarity with global Francophone literature, French language and basic translation courses will be considered an asset.  PhDs in related disciplines may be considered. Applications are encouraged from those whose scholarship critically addresses topics in the evolution of French literary movements in the 17th and 18th centuries. We are seeking a candidate with an active research program and publication record in one or more of the following areas: French baroque and classical literature of the 17th century and the French novel of the 18th century.

The candidate will be a native or near-native speaker of French and will be able to communicate well in English. She/he is expected to develop new courses as determined by the needs of the program and her/his research interests. The candidate will also coordinate and revise existing courses in the program. Evidence of teaching excellence is required, and familiarity with online systems of course delivery and distance education preferred. Experience supervising graduate students would also be considered an asset. All educational credentials must be recognized in Canada.
