The Department of French and Italian at the University of Pittsburgh (www.frit.pitt.edu) invites applications for a visiting assistant professor working at the intersection of French or Francophone studies and one (or more) of our department’s four curricular and research networks: studies of media and of materiality; ecocriticism; transnational studies; and gender & sexuality studies. We seek to enlarge our 'Ecocriticism' network to include French/Francophone urban studies. Candidates working in this area are welcome to apply as well. The teaching load is four courses per year at the graduate and undergraduate level. Pending budgetary approval, the position will begin in fall 2019 and is outside the tenure-track, with a one-year contract. Applicants may work on any time period, across periods, or in multiple periods, and they may work in national, transnational, or global contexts. Note that we understand “media” in a broad sense (including all pre-20th century forms of media).
Applicants must have an active research profile, demonstrated interest and proven proficiency in teaching, native or near-native fluency in French and English, the ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and PhD in hand at the time of appointment. PhD may be in any field.
