Roundtable: Spaces of Resistance in Medieval and Early Modern France
Chair: Stephanie O'Hara, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth
What sorts of spaces—geographical, physical, textual, real, imaginary—functioned as sites of resistance to authority in medieval and early modern France? Who created and used such spaces, and why? How were those spaces negotiated? This roundtable is open to a variety of texts and theoretical approaches, with the goal of mapping out connections and clashes between real and imagined spaces of resistance in the early modern period. Possible topics include but are not limited to: gendered spaces, cartography, speculative fiction, the theater, spaces connected to the Fronde. https://www.cfplist.com/nemla/Home/S/16893
Roundtable — 3-8 participants give brief, informal presentations (5-10 minutes) and the session is open to conversation and debate between participants and the audience.
