The Department of World Languages & Cultures at the University of Utah invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in French beginning July 1, 2022. This is a full-time, one-year appointment. Renewal may be possible pending funding approval. We seek candidates with scholarly expertise in pre-modern French literature and culture and a record of outstanding teaching. Primary specialization may include one or more of the following areas: the Middle Ages, 16th, 17th, and/or 18th, centuries. A secondary specialization in fields such as New World studies, poetry, theater and performance studies, environmental studies or ecocriticism, and popular culture are also welcome.
The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester (3/3), including upper-division undergraduate courses and one graduate seminar in their specialty. We seek a dynamic scholar with demonstrated teaching excellence and strong research potential. Pending approval, we hope to open a search for a tenure-track version of this position in the near future.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in French or Comparative Literature or equivalent terminal degree in hand by August 15, 2022. Native or near-native fluency in French and English is a prerequisite.
