Huguenot correspondence in Early Modern France

Initial expressions of interest are invited for application to a two-year post-doctoral fellowship based in Dublin, Ireland under the Irish Research Council Enterprise Partnership Scheme. The research project is centred on the correspondence written to a Huguenot in France, in the quarter century before the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685 (an archive of 1,200 letters, held in Marsh’s Library, Dublin).
The project involves both an analysis of the letters, with a view to further developing insight into the cultural and political concerns of the Huguenot community in the pre-Revocation years, and a digitally generated transcription of the letters. It incorporates therefore both traditional academic research and a digital humanities element.
The salary for this position is €38,632 in the first year and €39,186 in the second. The remuneration package also includes employer’s PRSI contributions and research expenses of €5,000 per annum.
The proposed starting date is 1 September 2022. The postdoctoral researcher will be based in Dublin.
The successful candidate, who will be proposed as the applicant for an IRC Enterprise Partnership Scheme, will have native or near-native proficiency in the French language and have been awarded (or certified as fulfilling the requirements of) a PhD in the 5-year period before 31st May 2022 in early modern French history or literature or Huguenot studies. Applicants who have a PhD in a related discipline, together with demonstrable experience in working with early modern French archives, will also be considered.

Correspondance huguenote dans la France de l'Ancien Régime
Les postdoctorants désireux de postuler pour une bourse de deux ans, à Dublin en Irlande, sous l'égide du Irish Research Council Enterprise Partnership Scheme, sont invités à envoyer leur candidature. Le projet de recherche concerne la correspondance écrite à un Huguenot en France pendant les vingt-cinq années précédant la Révocation de l'Edit de Nantes de 1685 (il s'agit d'une archive de 1 200 lettres conservées à la Bibliothèque Marsh à Dublin).
Le projet comprend à la fois une analyse de la correspondance, avec l'idée de mieux appréhender les préoccupations culturelles et politiques de la communauté huguenote dans la période ayant précédé la Révocation de l'Edit de Nantes, et une transcription et numérisation des lettres. Ce projet en sciences humaines comprend donc un aspect scientifique mais aussi un aspect numérique.
La rémunération pour ce poste s'élève à 38 632 € la première année et à 39 186 € la seconde. Ce contrat inclut aussi la contribution de l'employeur au PRSI (Pay Related Social Insurance / Contribution à la Sécurité-Assurance sociale) et des frais liés à la recherche à hauteur de 5 000 € par an.
La date proposée pour débuter le contrat est le 1er septembre 2022. Le chercheur ou la chercheuse retenu(e) devra être principalement domicilié(e) à Dublin.
La candidate ou le candidat retenu(e) qui se verra proposé(e) pour le poste du IRC Enterprise Partnership Scheme, doit avoir des compétences linguistiques en français égales ou proches de celles d'un francophone de langue maternelle. Par ailleurs, il est aussi requis qu'un doctorat spécialisé dans les études littéraires, historiques ou huguenotes de l'Ancien Régime en France ait été décerné à la candidate ou au candidat dans les cinq ans qui auront précédé la date du 31 mai 2022. Les candidats qui ont obtenu un doctorat dans un champ disciplinaire proche, et qui font preuve d'une expérience professionnelle dans le domaine des archives de l'Ancien Régime, verront aussi leur proposition examinée.
