Assistant Professor of French (UNCW)

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of French beginning August 2019. We seek a colleague with broad teaching expertise and interests. The teaching load is 3/3 and includes language, literature, and culture courses at all undergraduate levels. The successful candidate will contribute to curriculum development while integrating applied and experiential learning opportunities. Service to the program, department, and university will be expected. We welcome candidates interested in establishing collaborations with other programs and departments on campus. The position requires native or near-native fluency in both French and English. A Ph.D. in French or equivalent foreign degree must be in hand by August 2019. A record of excellence in college-level teaching is essential, as is an active research agenda.

While specialization is open, we are particularly interested in candidates whose research will complement the offerings of our dynamic French section and growing College of Arts and Sciences. Areas of particular interest include intellectual and cultural history; poetry and political literature; and work addressing the intersection of the sciences and humanities in a French studies context (e.g. environmental humanities, digital humanities, medical humanities).
