The Department of French and Francophone Studies at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of French and Francophone Studies. We seek a candidate whose scholarship focuses on the early modern and/or enlightenment period of French and Francophone studies. Research specialization is open, though preference will be given to those who demonstrate the ability to translate the rich cultural heritage of either period into a contemporary global context (e.g., human rights and transnational exchanges). Desirable characteristics include an ability to contribute to the existing interdisciplinary programs in International Studies and/or Medieval and Early Modern Studies as well as additional proficiency in philosophy, ethics, and civic engagement.
Applicants must have or be close to completing a Ph.D., demonstrate native or near-native fluency in French, exhibit excellence in teaching, and have an active scholarly agenda. In addition to teaching upper-level courses in their area of specialization, candidates will be expected to teach all levels of French language and culture and to mentor students. The annual teaching load is five courses and the ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate.
